Closest Hotel to the Falls

So we don't like to brag but we are the closest hotel to the Falls. Our guest rooms have the best views of the American, Bridal Veil and Canadian Horseshoe Falls but don’t take our word for it. The Travel Channel listed the Marriott Fallsview Hotel as one of the places to stay while visiting Niagara Falls.
….” Oversize windows in guestrooms offer panoramic views of the falls or the river while 2-room family suites comfortably accommodate families up to 6 people without compromising luxury or that stellar view…..” Taken from the Travel Channel’s Article: Niagara Falls Weekend Guide

Our view is amazing but we also strive to provide you with the best service while you are visiting us. We want your stay to be truly memorable!

VENOM Exhibit Open at the Butterfly Conservatory

Until May 12, the Butterfly Conservatory will be hosting the VENOM exhibit—displaying venomous species from around the world. With the popular interpreter Kevin Dungey, aka “Caiman Kevin”, from Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo of Ottawa, the VENOM exhibit offer children a unique and interactive experience with animals. Educating the public on the myths and safety realities of dangerous animals, the VENOM exhibit is an enlightening event for all.

The exhibit includes tarantulas, scorpions, highly poisonous toads, rattlesnakes, vipers and one of only two king cobras on display in Canada. The event is for all ages and is relatively hands-on, allowing all kids to learn the various aspects of venomous and poisonous animals. With March break soon approaching, it would be a great opportunity to head down to the Butterfly Conservatory.

Marriott Fallsview Green Initiatives

Marriott Fallsview Towel Reuse Program

Marriott Fallsview Green Initiatives

Marriott International is very aware of the environmental impact of its business operations. Goals are set to reduce energy use, water consumption, waste and carbon. Marriott is very committed to educating and inspiring not only its associates but also its guests to help conserve and preserve.

Here at the Marriott Fallsview Hotel we have several strategies in place to keep in line with Marriott International’s philosophy. We are constantly looking for ways to Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Our hotel is next to one of the greatest wonders of the world, not to mention all of the beautiful parks and outdoor conservation areas that surround us. That means we are extra committed to making sure we preserve our environment. An example of this can be seen at The Terrapin Grille Fallsview Restaurant (located in the hotel). The Terrapin Grille abides by a strict organics and recycling program while also using certified renewable resource energy suppliers.

When staying with us there are ways you can help too!
• Hang up towels for future us. Your contribution to this program helps to conserve water and detergent use.
• Use recycle bins. Discard recyclable material in the proper bins to help reduce landfill waste.

By choosing less polluting methods of travel you can also have a large impact on your trip's overall carbon footprint.
• Trains emit much less carbon dioxide than airplanes.
• While visiting Niagara Falls you can bike or walk around rather than driving.

Not only can you help preserve our planet when travelling, there are also everyday practices you can incorporate into your daily routines.
• Get in the habit of turning off lights and powering down small machines, like your computer when not in use.
• Avoid the use of toxic substances
• Recycle and/or reuse materials
• Buy and use green products

Environment Canada offers some great tips on minimizing the creation of pollutants and waste.

Together we really can make a difference!

Niagara Freedom Trail

Niagara Freedom Trail

Seems as though every couple years a new conflict results in thousands of refugees coming to Canada, a point of pride for many Canadians. Did you know that it was originally residents of the Niagara Region through the Niagara Freedom Trail (part of the Underground Railroad) that started this tradition.

Without much government assistance the Niagara Freedom Trail operated for decades and brought freedom to people facing racial, religious, and ethnic persecution. Niagara acted as a haven for those looking for full equality, as some ethnic groups which were not persecuted based on race were victims of ethnic prejudice in workplaces throughout New England and Quebec. Saving lives and livelihood for thousands of families that are now proud fourth to seventh generation Canadians.

Niagara Freedom Trail

The Niagara Freedom Trail is a highlight in the 1812 festivities and will continue to be honoured as each political milestone passes (War of 1812, Confederation, American Civil War, etc.). The Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview is built on the former site of the Burning Springs Observatory, a twentieth century addition to the Niagara Experience which welcomed hundreds of new Canadians in the early twentieth century as they crossed the bridge from America.

Home Sweet Gingerbread Home

Niagara Falls Hotel Holidays

In addition to the holiday tree that we put up in our lobby, our wonderful food and beverage staff creates a large gingerbread house for public display each year. This year, they have outdone themselves once again; the cookie-veneered mansion was created with sour key candy, candy canes, jujubes, candy-coated chocolates, frosting, and of course, gingerbread.

We love showing off the holiday spirit at the Marriott Fallsview Hotel. Celebrate it with us by taking advantage of one of our hotel packages available at this time of year.

Our Lovely Holiday Tree

Marriott Fallsview Holiday Tree

It is a yearly tradition for the Marriott Fallsview Hotel to put up a large tree in our lobby. This year, the tree looks grand to say the least. The photo shown here was taken a few days ago, and more decorations are added to the tree every few days to add to its magical holiday presence.

As the holidays grow closer, be sure to book one of our many packages that you can enjoy during the season, such as our Winer Festival of Lights Special or New Year's Eve Fallsview Special. Enjoy the natural beauty of the falls from our hotel; it will definitely "warm you up" during the cold season!

Clifton Hill Haunted House

Clifton Hill Haunted House

Clifton Hill has a history as the attractions hotspot in Niagara Falls. Did you know it is also cursed with evil spirits?

Clifton Hill Scares Marriott Guests

It is a good bet that if you visit one of the haunted houses on Clifton Hill you will get a good scare. Zombies, Frankenstein, Djinn, and numerous other scary creatures lurk within. Dress appropriately though - because many of the Niagara Falls Haunted House attractions are full contact fear factories.

Autumn Attractions in Niagara Falls

Haunted Houses are some of the best attractions to visit in the fall. They are protected from the elements and do not require a long drive out to wine country. They are a short ride away on either the Hotel Shuttle or the WEGO Blue Line between Fallsview Boulevard and Clifton Hill.

Winter Action in Niagara Falls 2012

Red Bull Crashed Ice in Niagara Falls 2012

Watch the mist turn into beautiful ice formations. Enjoy a warm meal and a glass of ice wine. Get in front of the fireplace and reminisce. Party all night long at the Casino. See a live performance at the local theatre.

All of these great things happen throughout the winter in Niagara Falls. Entertainment is just a short drive away from three major cities and four airports.

Red Bull Crashed Ice

Expected to be one of the coolest events in Niagara Falls, Red Bull Crashed Ice comes this winter. It combines the best of hockey transformed into a high speed race and brawl. The sweet spot between motorcross, roller derby, speed skating, and hockey will be in Niagara Falls on November 29th, 2012.

Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls

Traditionally the Winter Festival of Lights ends before the mountains of snow arrive in January, and a light dusting is all you need to enjoy the warm glow on a cool night. The light show has transformed over the last couple of years to include more displays, fully wrapped trees, a skating rink, and a growing list of smaller improvements. It isn't easy to take a perfect festival and make it better, everyone at the hotel is looking forward to seeing the new displays near Niagara Falls.

After the Romantic Autumn Defoliation

While I'll admit that the word 'defoliation' isn't very romantic, watching the leaves changing colour and falling in Niagara Falls is amazing. The scent of turkey on Canadian Thanksgiving (Mid-October), fashionable sweaters, and plenty of great wines will be waiting for you on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

Keep track of these events and more through our local Niagara Falls Events Calendar.

Nik Wallenda tightrope walk over the Falls on June 15

Nikolas Wallenda. Born January 24, 1979 in Sarasota, Florida. A proud father of 3. Some would say he looks like your “everyday man”, but he certainly doesn’t act like it.

No “everyday man” would be confirmed to walk on a tightrope over Niagara Falls on June 15. The news was finally confirmed during a press conference this morning as Wallenda made the official statement from Niagara Falls.

Luckily, Wallenda has some practice. He has been making his living by performing extremely risky highrise daredevil stunts since he can remember. It was at the age of 4 when Nik’s family had him start practicing on a tightrope. Since then, he has grown to be a world-renowned performer. Currently, Wallenda and his wife Erendira own and operate Wallendas Inc, an entertainment company that puts on thrill shows across the globe. He and his wife also perform at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But currently, Nik has his focus set on conquering the huge feat of walking across the incredible wonder of the world, the mighty Niagara Falls.

The Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa has the best view in the city to watch this spectacular event from. If you can't get out to watch it, you can visit WallendaCam.com to see a live hi-res online video feed of the Falls that will still be rolling on June 15 to capture the historic event, so be sure to visit back.

New York Times Review of Marriott Niagara Falls

Just a couple of weeks ago the Frommers review of Marriott Niagara Falls was highlighted. The same review has made its way to the New York Times. New York City is fairly close to Niagara Falls and is an excellent weekend getaway destination for most of New England. New York City is a little far for a day trip though, ipso facto travellers will need a place to stay. Stay with Marriott Fallsview Hotel and you will get a view of the Niagara Falls. Easy.

The same review for those that didn't catch it the last time:

Put simply, if you want to stay as close to the falls as possible, book here. Built in a curving design that allows virtually every room an unobstructed view, this luxury hotel sits just 300 feet from Horseshoe Falls -- closer than any competitor. The service is excellent and amenities are plentiful, including an extensive spa. Standard rooms are big with large bathrooms; upgraded rooms let you take a whirlpool bath with the falls just a glance away. With comfy beds, a great restaurant (reviewed below), a spa and pool, and the best falls view in town, you may never want to leave this place.

For subscribers of the NYT that stay with us there is an opportunity to review and rate the Marriott Fallsview as a customer. Check it out after the link.

Natural Adventures in Niagara Falls

Natural Adventures in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a global travel destination because of its natural beauty, and travellers looking to experience raw nature attractions have plenty of things to do in Niagara Falls. Nearly all of these attractions are great outdoor picnic destinations, an affordable option for families or a romantic option for couples. No basket? no problem, all of these venues are a short distance away from amazing restaurants and affordable kiosks. Start your adventure with a breakfast at the Niagara Falls Marriott Hotel.

Gardens and Jungles with Niagara Parks
The Botanical Gardens have always been host to beautiful local plants and over the last two decades have featured more tropical plants in their public greenhouse. If you were looking for a place to smell the roses, this year-round attraction is waiting. The Botanical Gardens is an excellent destination for photographers, and is among the closest to Niagara Falls. Just walk south of the Falls while in the Parkland.

Animal Instincts of Safari Niagara
Safari Niagara is the farthest major natural attraction from Niagara Falls and is only open in the warmer months as an outdoor attraction. Safari Niagara is huge though, it is the only permanent attraction in Niagara that features Giraffes, Tigers, Apes, and Raptors. It is also home to a large outdoor music venue and a riding 'safari' tour. Bring your cameras, as this is another photographers paradise.

Aquatic Attractions in Niagara Falls
For those that prefer to see creatures behind a thick layer of glass there are multiple marine sanctuaries in Niagara Falls. One of those attractions is a short distance from the Niagara Falls Marriott Hotels. If you want to get close to the fish and terrapin (aka turtles) then you have to go to Dufferin Islands. You can see them in an outdoor marine habitat where they come and go as they please from the same aquatic ecosystem as Niagara Falls. Dufferin Islands is a short walk south of Niagara Falls guests can find the Dufferin Islands just past the Botanical Gardens.

Beautiful Bugs at the Butterfly Conservatory
Another excellent Niagara Parks attraction the Butterfly Conservatory is situated roughly a couple kilometers north of Niagara Falls. The Butterfly Conservatory is the first omni-attraction featuring animals and sprawling gardens outside of their etymologist's palace. Like the other major attractions it will take the better part of the day to complete your adventure here. No maps needed, guests can ride there with ease by following the water north from Niagara Falls. The People Mover Public Transit system rides to the Butterfly Sanctuary.

This is a week worth of healthy and natural vacation options. No cars are needed to get to the attractions in Niagara Falls from the Marriott Hotel, in case you'd prefer to drive our valet services are open year round. If you'd like to learn more visit our attractions page at http://niagarafallsmarriott.com/attractions

Frommers Review of Marriott Niagara Falls

Marriott Niagara Falls is the closest hotel to the Niagara Falls. This can be hard to describe since there are so many other hotels with similar claims. Take it from the experts at Frommers Travel Guides, Marriott Fallsview is the absolute closest hotel to Niagara Falls.

The Real Waterparks of Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls doesn't look like a waterpark capital but there are plenty of options large and small for guests looking to take a dip. The newest wave of waterparks are all indoors and feature some amazing additions - and the race is on for one of the parks to emerge as champion.

Waterslides | Will make you glide and ride

Waterslides are the main attraction and the Niagara Falls waterparks take them seriously. Propelling, twisting, dropping, and generally disorienting guest is fun for everyone. Each waterslide in Niagara Falls is unique, and with more than 25 across the four major waterparks there is plenty of variation for your vacation.

Wave Pool | Will make you cool

Wave pools are incredibly complex pieces of technology and allow guests to get the waves on the beach experience in the middle of winter. Guests are literally moved by the wave pool, and when the wave pool siren goes off guest flock to see the commotion. Water in motion is both calming and exciting like a campfire or your first sight of Niagara Falls.

Warm Relaxation | Will make your vacation into a sensation

There are two important ways to relax poolside - soaking in the sun and soaking in the hot tub. Hot tubs are a standard inside of the hotels but very few have an on-site Onsen, a large outdoor hot tub. It can be a great way to slip away while the kids play in the park section of the waterpark.

Getting wet and wild in Niagara Falls doesn't have to be difficult, most hotels feature a package that includes admission to the best waterparks in Niagara Falls. Our package is the aptly named Waterpark Package is an excellent family adventure. With it you visit the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark, home to 16 of those waterslides and the year-round outdoor sundeck. Book your Niagara Falls hotel package now and beat the rush.

This is the most popular type of Niagara Falls getaway, and for many leads to guest having the best wedding photos on Pinterest. Luckily you don't have to be married to get the Couples Spa Retreat at Marriott Fallsview Hotel and Spa - home of the Serenity Spa by the Falls.

Food for your Boards
All of the food I see on Pinterest is so pretty and well presented - similar to plates from Terrapin Grille in Niagara Falls. My last excursion to the Terrapin was on Valentines day, so I'll be looking forward to the next seasonal creation from Chef Ron Kneabone. The dinner menu is a luxurious fusion of French and Canadian cuisine - presented with a view of the falls.

Call it fate or call it love, when I'm on Pinterest there is nothing but a bright future. Feel free to share some of your favourite pins in the comments and I'll try to get the best posts approved in the spirit of sharing. I'll also be looking for submissions through Twitter, since those are already public you can mark them with the hashtags #Pinterest and #Niagara to get in on the pin-winning.

Watch the Live Wallenda Cam

Watch Nik Wallenda live as he goes over the falls. One of the most exciting daredevil shows in over 20 years is going to take place. Both the parklands and fallsview area are expected to be packed.

There is already a flurry of information and misinformation flying around about when and where Nik Wallenda will be doing the walk. One thing is certain, the Falls Cam will capture the entire event. Marriott Gateway on the Falls is preparing their camera for the event and users will be able to watch live at WallendaCam.com.

The newest camera in Niagara Falls will have the clearest high definition images. The new Fallscam is being installed to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Marriott Gateway on the Falls after the multi-million dollar renovation and upgrade.

The new camera will also have improved night images. Live images day and night offering potential guests a preview of the nightly falls illumination.

The new camera is also going to join the EarthCam network, reaching out to more users. EarthCam is recognized as being one of the most popular stationary streaming services.

Watching the water fall over the brink or watching Nik Wallenda go over the edge this eye in the sky is your best option to see the majesty in Niagara Falls in 2012.

The Best Everything in Niagara Falls

The word cheap is not in the vocabulary of any hotel, restaurant, or attraction on Fallsview Boulevard. Because of these persistent high standards it can be difficult for the walk-in traveller to find a deal, follow these tips and you'll be able to march in for the best of everything in Niagara Falls.

The Best Prices in Niagara Falls
Groupon is a phenomenal tool for travellers looking for the full luxury experience, and they benefit from being the first major player in the online group deal market. WagJag provides local deals that are optimized for you. Travelzoo specializes in the travel market, making it easier to navigate than sites that place vacation deals next to advertisements for furnace repair and dental procedures. Save enough money on accomodations, luxury dining, shopping and spa experiences and they can all be a part of your vacation while staying on budget.

The Best Accomodations in Niagara Falls
Being an informed traveller it is easy to find the best rate, and now you can discover in advance that you're going to get the best room. Besides the new deals sites there are the traditional online travel agencies and review sites that can act as a litmus test for quality. Check out these links:

Still think that this is too good to be true, believe it. These deals are our standard packages, you get everything. Hotels in Niagara Falls work hard to reach out to people that would always appreciate the best for less. The Niagara Falls luxury experience cannot be replicated by even the most ambitious motel outside of Niagara Falls.

The Best Spas in Niagara Falls
One of the most relaxing spa experiences is the Serenity Spa by the Falls. Serenity Spa by the Falls was ranked in the Top 100 Spas in North America, the Top 50 Spas in Canada, and Top Three Spas in Niagara by the Spas of America ratings agency. It continues to be rated as the best spa in Niagara Falls by guests.

The Best Dining in Niagara Falls
Websites like Yelp are great tools to find guaranteed amazing local dining experiences. Marriott Gateway by the Falls has the best rated Milestones along the Niagara River open daily. Some travellers may not know that all of these hotel restaurants are open to anyone looking for a fine dining experience, travellers staying at the Marriott Gateway may be surprised by the unique dining experience across the street at the Terrapin Grille. Chef Ron Kneabone is in command at the Terrapin Grille, a local celebrity in his own way, he is wired to get things done right and delivers some of the best Canadian Cuisine with French and German inspirations.

Higher and Higher - Nik Wallenda Niagara Falls Walk 2012

Nik Wallenda will bring back the tight-rope experience to Niagara Falls in a one time only high wire act. Now that the Niagara Parks Commision is allowing Nik Wallenda to enjoy the splendor of Niagara Falls while adding to the enjoyment of other visitors.

Staying in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is one of the safest places in the world to see such a powerful and dangerous part of nature as a tourist. Nik Wallenda is not coming to Niagara Falls as a tourist, he is bringing back the daredevil culture. It is an important part of reclaiming the sense of adventure and real feeling of danger that has been gradually disappearing over the decades. It is welcome news that Nik Wallenda plans to make his move to Niagara Falls permanent, as a resident he will be a part of the growing number of entertainers that travel the globe and choose to come home to Niagara.

History of Danger
"Other daredevils have made crossing the falls their goal, starting with the successful passage by Jean François "Blondin" Gravelet in 1859. These tightrope walkers drew huge crowds to witness their exploits. Their wires ran across the gorge, near the current Rainbow Bridge, not over the waterfall itself. Among the many was Ontario's William Hunt, who billed himself as "The Great Farini" and competed with Blondin in performing outrageous stunts over the gorge. Englishman Captain Matthew Webb, the first man to swim the English Channel, drowned in 1883 after unsuccessfully trying to swim the rapids down river from the falls." Quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls)

Unmissable 2012
This is a big deal and many of the biggest players in Niagara Falls are saying this will be one of the three biggest events in Niagara alongside the War of 1812 Memorials and major concerts coming to the region. There is never a bad time to visit Niagara Falls, but for the truest thrill seekers this would be a bad time not to visit. The only thing that could push this over the top would be a visit by Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. Hotels are booking early for Canada Day 2012 in Niagara Falls and anyone that isn't already at the top of the list may have difficulty the longer that they wait - book now.

Update: Not only has the event been announced but we are hosting an event and are sponsoring the WallendaCam at http://www.wallendacam.com/
