One More Weekend of Ice Wine

If you haven't been to the ice wine festival yet, I highly recommend you go this weekend before you miss it! January 28th and 29th are the last days the festival is running, but there is still so much to do at the many wineries that are participating. The Discovery Pass gets you entry into 6 wineries to taste their icewine and enjoy ice wine themed treats. For instance, last weekend I enjoyed two types of icewine at Peller Estates Winery, along with a delicious marshmallow infused with icewine, that we were able to cook over an open fire. Don't miss out on this great experience! For more information, click here.

If you prefer to book your icewine experience with a stay here at the Marriott Fallsview, our Ice Wine Package is still available here.

Free Skate Days – Rink at the Brink

There are two more Free Skate days available at the TD Rink at the Brink. TD Free Skate Days provide free admission for everyone on January 30 and February 13. This does not include skate rentals. You can also enjoy free hot chocolate and a free souvenir photo of your skating by the Falls experience! Free parking for TD RINK attendees is also provided courtesy of the Niagara Parks Commission.

The CAA Winter Festival of Lights kindly requests you bring a non-perishable food or cash donation for Project SHARE.

Niagara Ice Wine Escape

Niagara Ice Wine Escape

Ice wine has always been a special treat that I particularly enjoy this time of year. The very intense and sweet taste comes from leaving the grapes on the vine during the winter months to concentrate and intensify the flavour.

Enjoy the best ice wine Niagara has to offer here at the Marriott Fallsview with our Niagara Ice Wine Escape Package. It includes a 1 night stay, a wine reception hosted by Jackson Triggs Winery, VIP Ice Wine Tasting at Jackson Triggs, $25 spa certificate, breakfast, and a $40 dinner voucher at Terrapin Grille. This is a phenomenal deal that wine lovers will not want to miss out on. Click here to learn more.

Warm Reasons to Enjoy the Winter Season

Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow Cream

Winter can be one of the best times of the year if you know how to deal with it. While looking forward to your next spring break vacation you can enjoy some easy winter tips.

Hot Chocolate
Marshmallows, whipped cream and candy cane shavings can make the simple luxury of hot chocolate into an absolute delight. Many of these extras are available at any Niagara Falls cafe worth visiting, this includes the Starbucks at the Fallsview Hotel or Gateway Hotel Starbucks.

Get the best of both world with a Mocha, this beverage for those that aren’t familiar is half chocolate and half coffee prepared hot. Have a relaxing day without falling asleep.

Fireplace
Instant romance can be found in three easy steps. Add a fireplace, blanket and sofa to your night in and the rest is up to you. Conversation or silent awe are acceptable when your snuggle zone is overlooking Niagara Falls.

Your fireplace view can become your fireworks view when the light show starts at 9:00pm on Friday nights until the end of January. The fireworks continue in the summer months at different intervals. Watch them at least once in the Winter to enjoy the twilight sparkle in both the sky and on the snow.

Spicy Food
While spicy food may not be what everyone thinks of when the snow starts falling it is relevant. When winter arrives it is the right time to experience how different cultures preserved food for the winter. Niagara Falls is a city with a diverse cultural background and you can find the spicy cuisine from around the world.

Alternatively you can find the classics all across the fallsview area. Some of the most successful international franchises have offerings in Niagara Falls. Enjoy a steak and dessert at Milestones Niagara Falls situated at the end of the Fallsview Boulevard area. Finish your self directed walking tour there and enjoy some comfort food.

With all hope these warm feelings will stick with you, its easy to see how good Winter can be when you come prepared.

Escape the Winter Chill

Lava Shell Heat Therapy

As the cold weather is fast approaching, I have been looking for ways to stay warm this winter!

I went down to the Serenity Spa by the Falls located in the hotel and was delighted to hear they have a brand new treatment using lava shells. I had never heard of this type of treatment before and was curious to find out more! It is similar to a hot stone massage, but they use heated lava shells instead. The shells have a smooth texture and remain heated for over an hour.

Tip: If you book your appointment before November 30th, 2011 you will receive a free travel hanging bag and a moisturizing mask.

For more information on the new Lava Shell Therapy visit the Serenity Spa by the Falls website or call 1-888-209-1001.

Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay

Twenty-five years to the date of the start of the Man In Motion World Tour, Canadian hero Rick Hansen started the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay. On his journey of making the world more accessible the tour began August 24th, 2011 in Cape Spear, Newfoundland. Niagara on the Lake Wine Experience

Outdoor Experience in Niagara

There are a lot of ways to take in the wine experience. Tours, Tastings and Talks are among the most popular.

Tours
Niagara on the Lake and the remainder of the Niagara Region is beautiful, albeit for different reasons. Most tours will take you from the busy city of Niagara Falls to one of the wineries in Niagara on the Lake, Beamsville or Vineland. The tour can include talks and tastings although they shouldn't be the only consideration. The Niagara Escarpment, including Queenston Heights gives you a birds eye view of the wine country without having to fly. Coastal tours along Lake Ontario can take you to Konzelmann Estate Winery (link below) a highlight for lover of dessert wines.

Tastings
Niagara is a global wine capital, and it is among one of the best places in the world for food. Locally grown food from Ontario's Greenbelt is an important consideration for the great chefs of Niagara, pair your tasting with their expertise. The Pilliteri Winery is known for its ice wines, a regional specialty. Ice wine tastings are a unique luxury and fall and winter gourds offer a timely pairing. Bring a comfortable shirt, tastings can get messy even among the most experienced.

Talks
Learn from the best about the techniques used to make some of your favourite wines. The effect of humidity, temperature and proximity to water can have an early impact on wine. Great wine makers can share with you the basics of making good wine, or at a minimum keep you from damaging your house or workshop in the quest for your personal wine. Even wine lovers that aren't interested in making wine have the opportunity to learn about wine forecasting - getting a great vintage for a great price. Confused? Visit Niagara on the Lake today.

Holiday Tree

May his noodly appendage touch you.

If there is one thing I love about the Marriott Fallsview during the holidays, it's the huge tree in the lobby. November 1st marks the annual tree preparation for the holiday season. I took a picture of the tree which is about 40% decorated at this point. The holidays are fast approaching so be sure to book our Winter Festival of Lights Tour and/or our New Year's Eve Package soon! Both packages will sell out and here's a tip: the sooner you book the more money you will save!
