Nik Wallenda tightrope walk over the Falls on June 15
Nikolas Wallenda. Born January 24, 1979 in Sarasota, Florida. A proud father of 3. Some would say he looks like your “everyday man”, but he certainly doesn’t act like it.
No “everyday man” would be confirmed to walk on a tightrope over Niagara Falls on June 15. The news was finally confirmed during a press conference this morning as Wallenda made the official statement from Niagara Falls.
Luckily, Wallenda has some practice. He has been making his living by performing extremely risky highrise daredevil stunts since he can remember. It was at the age of 4 when Nik’s family had him start practicing on a tightrope. Since then, he has grown to be a world-renowned performer. Currently, Wallenda and his wife Erendira own and operate Wallendas Inc, an entertainment company that puts on thrill shows across the globe. He and his wife also perform at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But currently, Nik has his focus set on conquering the huge feat of walking across the incredible wonder of the world, the mighty Niagara Falls.

New York Times Review of the Marriott Niagara Falls Hotel
Just a couple of weeks ago the Frommers review of Marriott Niagara Falls was highlighted. The same review has made its way to the New York Times. New York City is fairly close to Niagara Falls and is an excellent weekend getaway destination for most of New England. New York City is a little far for a day trip though, ipso facto travellers will need a place to stay. Stay with Marriott Fallsview Hotel and you will get a view of the Niagara Falls. Easy.

The variety of avian creatures expands each year, and exhibits include everything from peaceful birds of the sea to predatory raptors. All indoors the bird Kingdom is open all four seasons. Find it north of the Falls just past the Rainbow Bridge, this is a bit of a longer walk from the Falls although it is a short walk from the Clifton Hill and Falls Avenue areas.
Animal Instincts of Safari Niagara
Safari Niagara is the farthest major natural attraction from Niagara Falls and is only open in the warmer months as an outdoor attraction. Safari Niagara is huge though, it is the only permanent attraction in Niagara that features Giraffes, Tigers, Apes, and Raptors. It is also home to a large outdoor music venue and a riding 'safari' tour. Bring your cameras, as this is another photographers paradise.
Aquatic Attractions in Niagara Falls
For those that prefer to see creatures behind a thick layer of glass there are multiple marine sanctuaries in Niagara Falls. One of those attractions is a short distance from the Niagara Falls Marriott Hotels. If you want to get close to the fish and terrapin (aka turtles) then you have to go to Dufferin Islands. You can see them in an outdoor marine habitat where they come and go as they please from the same aquatic ecosystem as Niagara Falls. Like the other major attractions it will take the better part of the day to complete your adventure here. No maps needed, guests can ride there with ease by following the water north from Niagara Falls. The People Mover Public Transit system rides to the Butterfly Sanctuary.

"Other daredevils have made crossing the falls their goal, starting with the successful passage by Jean François "Blondin" Gravelet in 1859. These tightrope walkers drew huge crowds to witness their exploits. Their wires ran across the gorge, near the current Rainbow Bridge, not over the waterfall itself. Among the many was Ontario's William Hunt, who billed himself as "The Great Farini" and competed with Blondin in performing outrageous stunts over the gorge. Englishman Captain Matthew Webb, the first man to swim the English Channel, drowned in 1883 after unsuccessfully trying to swim the rapids down river from the falls." Unmissable 2012
This is a big deal and many of the biggest players in Niagara Falls are saying this will be one of the three biggest events in Niagara alongside the War of 1812 Memorials and major concerts coming to the region. There is never a bad time to visit Niagara Falls, but for the truest thrill seekers this would be a bad time not to visit. The only thing that could push this over the top would be a visit by Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. Hotels are booking early for Canada Day 2012 in Niagara Falls and anyone that isn't already at the top of the list may have difficulty the longer that they wait - book now.
