The Château des Charmes winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake was founded by Paul Bosc in 1978. Several generations ago, the Bosc family had roots in France and Algeria; Paul and his family moved to the Niagara region in the 1960s.
The wines grown at their vineyards are all about balance, finesse, and structure. Delightful on their own and as delicious with food pairings, these wines are made from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards. These are Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard, St David’s Bench Vineyard, Creek Road Vineyard and Seven and Seven Vineyard. Eco-friendly methods used to produce these grapes include limiting the use of pest control and avoiding herbicides altogether. Working the soil regularly transforms the weeds into fertilizers and when combined with composted material nourishes the vines.
Château des Charmes is a charter member of Sustainable Winemaking Ontario, a program managed by the Wine Council of Ontario which focuses on the various aspects of wine production and usage of best environmental practices. The winery uses a mix of modern science, tender loving care, and sustainable practices to grow their award-winning red wines, white wines and icewines.
