Satisfying wine connoisseurs since 1996, Joseph’s Estate Wines produces high quality VQA wines. Their history actually dates further back to 1979 when Joseph established Newark winery, one of the three original cottage wineries in the Niagara region. Joseph was a farmer’s son who had great knowledge about terroir and understood the art of growing grapes. In fact, he made the first ice wine for Hillebrand in 1983 becoming one of the early ice wine pioneers in Canada.
From reds and whites to ice wines, fruit wines, specialty wines, sherry, port and more this winery has a great variety to choose from. Head to the large tasting bar, located within the winery, to sip on delicious wines or to buy your favourites. There’s a great selection of wines including several award winners. These include the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon VQA best taken with a pairing of grilled meat, risotto or stew. Several vintages of the Vidal ice wine have also garnered accolades. The 2006 Vidal Icewine VQA garnered a medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition which sees participation from 90 countries around the globe.
This winery proved to be a trailblazer for other wineries producing ice wines and it still remains a force to reckon with in the Niagara wine region.
