The thunderous roar of Horseshoe Niagara Falls fills your ears and you can’t help but be captivated by the sight and sound of up to 2,800 cubic meters of water crashing down to the basin below.
The Journey Behind the Falls takes you to the behind the Horseshoe falls, where visitors are treated to breath-taking views from two observation platforms, where they can go below and behind Horseshoe Falls. The tour starts with a 45 minute self-guided journey through tunnels and elevators and ends at the base of the falls, where visitors have the unique vantage point of watching the falls roar down from 13 stories above. This iconic Niagara Falls experience gives you the chance to observe and experience one-fifth of the world’s fresh water crashing down in a colossal sheet of water. Visitors can view the falls from both the upper and lower observation decks that take you to the very base of the falls. The upper deck is wheelchair accessible.
During spring and summer, visitors receive a free souvenir biodegradable rain poncho as protection against the mist created by the falls that may fill the observation platform. The attraction itself is located just beside the falls at Table Rock. From here, visitors will descend 150 feet through bedrock tunnels that lead to the Cataract Portal and the Great Falls Portals, which is one third of the way behind the massive, moving pane of water that roars past at more than 65 kilometers per hour.
Along the way, visitors can learn more about the history of the tunnels, and how the area in general evolved over the eons. One important tip for would-be visitors is to remember to bring a waterproof camera. The tour offers amazing, but damp, pictures opportunities.
For those coming to the falls over the winter, the tour offers reduced rates as the lower observation deck closes due to icy condition. The date of the rate change may be weather-dependent.
The Journey Behind the Falls admission rates are in Canadian dollars, and do not include taxes or fees.
Journey Behind the Falls opens on April 28th for the 2015 season.
