Queen's Royal Park

Queen's Royal Park

With perfect picture-postcard views, Queen’s Royal Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a small slice of paradise located just a few blocks away from the main town centre. Built on the site of the erstwhile Queen’s Royal Hotel, the park is a great way to escape the madness of everyday life and rejuvenate yourself. Located on the Niagara River where it empties into Lake Ontario, the park offers a stunning landscape with incredible views. With a carpet of green grass, beautiful trees, picturesque waterfront location and wonderful facilities, the park is the ideal place to relax.

Queen's Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Walk barefoot on the grass, go for a stroll along the water’s edge, spread a blanket and enjoy a picnic or just lie down and watch the world go by. The highlight of the park is the pretty gazebo that is perfectly framed against the landscape of the green grounds and the lovely waters.

Queen's Park Gazebo

Interestingly, the gazebo was built in the 1980s as part of the set for the movie The Dead Zone and was eventually donated to the town after filming was completed. The gazebo is used for private events and weddings.

The park offers splendid views. Across the mouth of Lake Ontario, you can see Fort Niagara and New York, USA to the east as well. On the shimmering waters, you can also spot boats bobbing up and down swaying to the rhythm to the water. There are trails through the trees where you can take a leisurely walk and a pathway along the Niagara River. Picnic tables and benches all around the park including ones overlooking the river are ideal to sit back and relax.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Meeting Point

You could also choose to laze under the shade of a tree while munching on a meal. There’s a small beach area as well. People-watching is great fun too and you can spot families with kids, elderly folk chatting or playing board games, people walking their dogs and children playing. The park also has washrooms as well as a parking lot.

Don’t forget to carry your camera as the park offers several opportunities for stunning photographs especially of the white gazebo standing pretty against the beautiful landscape. The waterfront also makes for stunning pictures. So when you go to Niagara-on-the-Lake to visit its wineries, don’t forget to make a stop at the Queen’s Royal Park. The park is open year round.
