A Musicians Musician
Whether you know him as Baron Longfellow, Long Fellow, Andrew Youakim, or simply Andy Kim, you are no doubt familiar with his hits. Rock Me Gently topped the US singles chart in the early 1970’s, typifying the quality and respect for sound that Andy Kim provided for his music. In addition, Andy Kim helped co-write “Sugar, Sugar,” which in 1969 was certified by the RIAA as the “Record of the Year.”
Beginnings and Current Direction
Andy Kim was born in Montreal Canada. The 3rd of 4 brothers to Lebanese immigrant parents, Andy Kim strove to rise above and be noticed. Helping to begin his career as a singer and song writer, Andy Kim was not shy to reinvent himself as he struggled to find a genre of music that worked for his particular style. Success for Andy Kim began in 1968, when his single “How’d We Ever Get This Way?” managed to get 21st place on a top 20 US Billboard. Later that year, Andy Kim released “Sugar, Sugar,” which he helped co-write for the Archies.
After some additional success, Andy Kim disappeared from public, only to re-emerge in the 1980’s as an alter ego Baron Longfellow. With some success, Baron Longfellow continued producing music and working with a number of bands including the Barenaked Ladies. Having recently received greater recognition for his works and contributions to music, Andy Kim is at it again, going on tour and wowing audiences with his mastery over music and song structure. While Andy Kim may have re-invented himself many times, his ability to sing and make music has never changed.
