The 60s rock folk duo of Simon and Garfunkel are legendary in 20th century music. Songs such as ‘The Sound of Silence’ and ‘Mrs Robinson’ need no introduction even to a modern audience; the 1970 album Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of the world’s best-selling albums.
And to music aficionados, just as famous as the music is the troubled relationship between Simon and Garfunkel, leading to their split later in 1970. Despite some reunion tours over the decades, their complicated relationship tends to dominate their respective public profiles – enough to almost overshadow the fact that both artists have garnered healthy solo careers in the meantime.
This upcoming February is a concert that you won't want to miss: Art Garfunkel Up-close. This mixture of story telling and musical performance, all starting at $30 a ticket, is a great additional Niagara Falls Winter activity to experience during an upcoming trip to Niagara Falls.
Art Garfunkel Solo Career
Art Garfunkel, for one, hit the ground running with work as a solo artist and even as an actor; having already appeared in Catch-22 (1969) he received praise for his performance in movies such as Carnal Knowledge (1971) and Bad Timing (1980).
He began releasing solo albums from 1973 onwards, receiving high critical acclaim for his music across the 70s, 80s and 90s – singles like ‘Bright Eyes’, featured on the soundtrack for the 1979 film Watership Down, are still considered classics. He finally got the attention of the Grammys again when he was nominated for Best Children’s Album in 1998 for Songs From a Parent to a Child – and when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award alongside Paul Simon in 2003.
Art Garfunkel Niagara Falls Concert
Now in his 70s, Garfunkel still tours and performs regularly. In 2017, he will be appearing at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls on February 25 in ‘Art Garfunkel: In Close-Up’. This one-show-only performance is more than just a live concert – it’s an opportunity to hear Garfunkel discuss his career, his songs and the lessons his learnt from a dramatic life.
Considering the wide range of Garfunkel’s interests and talents – songwriter, actor, bibliophile, poet – the conversations Garfunkel would have with his audience are worth the ticket price alone. Add in performances of his most iconic songs, both as a solo artist and as part of his involvement in one of the most iconic musical acts of the past century, and it’s a huge night for music fans.
