Over the years, the group has had a few members who joined, left and re-joined the band. The current members are:

  • Ed Robertson (guitar, vocals)
  • Jim Creeggan (bass, vocals)
  • Kevin Hearn (keyboards, guitar, vocals)
  • Tyler Stewart (drums, vocals).

Ed Robertson and Steven Page were the founder members of the band that arrived on the scene in 1988. In 1989, Robertson and Page were joined by brothers Jim and Andrew Creeggan. Kevin Hearn also came on board in the mid-nineties. Page, after several years with the band, went on to quit the group in 2009.

The band developed a substantial following in Canada with The Yellow Tape in 1991. It started off as a demo tape that the band sold off the stage initially but soon acquired tremendous popularity and a commercial release. With 100,000 copies sold, it acquired platinum status and was the first indie release to do so in Canada. Soon, the band’s first full album Gordon was released in 1992 and it contained popular numbers such as Be My Yoko Ono and Enid.

A couple of more albums followed that had average success and the band also faced issues with Andrew Creeggan leaving the band. After Kevin Hearn stepped in, the band went on to release their biggest album Stunt in 1998. The album was a success not just in Canada but became very popular in the US as well. It was this album especially the single One Week that propelled them to fame in America. BNL released another album Maroon in 2000 which was also quite successful especially the number Pinch Me. They continued to release more albums and also staged live performances and tours in Canada, US and the UK.

BNL wrote and recorded the title song for the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory that has been running since 2007. The catchy song became a huge rage not just in the US and Canada but across the world. The band’s latest album BNL Rocks Red Rocks released in 2016. Over the years, the band has won several accolades including eight Juno Awards and has garnered Grammy nominations as well. With a massive fan base, the band is hugely popular on the tour circuit and continues to enthral crowds everywhere with their high-voltage performances.
