Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal

It’s no understatement to call Billy Crystal one of the most important and influential comics and entertainers of recent times. As a comic, TV and movie star, presenter and writer, Crystal has always been in demand.

His first televised appearances would begin in 1976, most notably as part of The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast and a later-cut sketch for the premiere episode of NBC Saturday Night (now known as Saturday Night Live – Crystal would later become a regular guest during the mid-80s). His first regular spot was on the soap opera parody Soap – a show now critically acclaimed but regarded with controversy at the time, partly because of Crystal’s role being the first openly homosexual character on American television.

From the early 1980s onwards, Crystal did a little of everything – various television appearances, stand-up and a slow increase in film appearances, developing from guest roles in This is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride to starring roles in 1989’s When Harry Met Sally and 1991’s City Slickers, all considered classics of their respective genres.

In more recent times Crystal has added writing and directing to his array of skills, while still acting and performing. More popular roles include starring alongside Robert De Niro in Analyse This, lending his voice to the Monsters Inc animated movies and his Tony Award winning one-act play 700 Sundays in 2005–7. Although he’s mostly moved away from the regular TV roles where he started, he’s probably never been busier as an entertainer.

Billy Crystal at Fallsview Casino

In April 2017, Billy Crystal will be performing at Niagara Falls for his first time. Billy Crystal is scheduled to appear in for Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 April at the Avalon Ballroom Theatre.

The performing nights are billed as ‘evenings of stand-up and storytelling’. For a performer known at one of the most frequent and acclaimed Academy Awards host (the second most regular host with nine years to his name), an energetic stand-up performer and a bestselling author to boot, having the chance to hear his stand-up and storytelling should be considered a major calendar event for Niagara Falls.
