Boz Scaggs

Boz Scaggs will be performing at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls in July 2015. He is one of the pioneers of blended music genres and has a very unique sound that he has been developing for many decades. His notorious blend of rock, soul and jazz is what Boz Scaggs is most famous for.

Beginnings

Boz Scaggs met Steve Miller act a young age when both were in school and they quickly developed a friendship centered on their love of music. They created a band known as The Marksmen and continued to play together while they both attended the University of Wisconsin. Boz actually left school for a short period of time to travel to London and check out the rhythm and blues scene that was growing popular. He experimented by performing as a lead vocalist for a number of local bands including The Ardells and The Fabulous Knight Trains, but he still wanted more.

Steve Miller Band

When Boz finally made his way back to the states, he hooked back up with Steve Miller in San Francisco and was an integral part of the Steve Miller Band for 2 albums. He played guitar and sang backup vocals. However, his need to go solo never waned. In 1968, Boz Scaggs actually began his solo career and got a record deal with Atlantic Records. His second album was very eclectic and even featured the notorious rhythm guitarist Duane Allman. He had moderate success for a number of years until his release of the album Silk Degrees. The actually charted as #2 on the US Billboard 200 and was filled with hit singles including:

  • “It's Over"
  • "Lowdown"
  • "What Can I Say"
  • "Lido Shuffle.”

The hit singles helped push this album to platinum.

Late Career

Scaggs had a lot of success in his prime and toured the world playing his hit music, but eventually he wanted to take a bit of a break. In the 1990’s he returned to music and started to focus more on his blues sound. He also released a jazz album in 2003 that received rave reviews. Continuing to expand his sound and create soulful music is what Scaggs has been concentrating on for the last decade.

Still Touring

Due to his long list of hits and diverse blend of sound, Boz Scaggs is still a very popular musician that tours the world entertaining crowds. He has been in the music industry for decades, but his music is still relevant.
