History of Niagara Falls Fireworks

It’s impossible not to fall in love with the stunning beauty of the Niagara Falls! Day views are spectacular and night views are equally stunning with the illuminated falls and the fireworks display above the falls.

The fireworks over the falls is an annual fireworks display that lights up the night sky above the falls. It’s a tradition that usually takes place on certain days between May and November. 1994 marked the first regular Falls fireworks show. This pyrotechnic display at the falls has been created and managed by the David Whysall International Fireworks company since the year 2000. Whysall and his team work for many hours to ensure that the firework shows go off without a hitch. In 2014, 81 firework displays took place over the falls.

There’s a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to set up the display. The crew scouts for places around the Niagara River to place the fireworks into firing tubes 3 to 6 inches in size. The show is programmed and the fireworks are launched electronically into the sky. It’s similar to the way rocket launches operate except that this is on a much smaller scale. Once launched, it’s a sound and sight spectacle with popping, whizzing and whistling sounds accompanied by colourful showers of fire and light as the fireworks burst in the dark night sky. Each display takes around 10 minutes but each minute is worth it as it is a magical sight to watch the dazzling fireworks above the illuminated falls.

There are a number of places around the falls to catch the fireworks in action. One of the best places is Queen Victoria Park, which has a great view of the falls. The Niagara Parkway is also a wonderful place to check out the show. If you want a closer view, you can get one right beside the falls at Table Rock Welcome Centre. You get to watch an amazing fireworks show absolutely free. And one of the best places to watch the Fireworks display is from a Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel room. Pull up a chair and relax in your climate controlled room, enjoying a clear view of the Fireworks.
