Holiday Tea at McFarland House

Holiday Tea at McFarland House

The festive season just got better at Niagara Falls with the McFarland Holiday Tea event in December. After all, it is the season for togetherness and lip-smacking treats! The traditional Holiday Tea at the McFarland House in Niagara-on-the-Lake will have a lavish spread of Christmas goodies this December. It’s just a short distance from Niagara Falls, so you can head there to enjoy tea and delicious food in a beautiful setting. The special event will take place on December 10 and 11, 2016.

One of the oldest properties in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the McFarland House was built in 1800. A historic Georgian structure, it was the home of a Scottish immigrant John McFarland, his family and descendants for almost 140 years. The house played a strategic role in the War of 1812 and also served as a hospital for British and American troops.

Much later, the historic structure was transferred to the Niagara Parks Commission. It was renovated and opened to the public in 1959. Recently, it was renovated again and its infrastructure upgraded. But the house still has original furniture and fascinating objects from that time period. Guides in period costumes offer visitors a guided tour of the house. With its picturesque grounds, pretty gardens, park with playground facilities and picnic pavilion as well as modern washrooms, the house is a must-visit place in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

McFarland House Tea Room

One of the highlights of the McFarland House is the tea room with a greenhouse feel. It is a great place to have beverages and food while looking out at the pretty surroundings. You can enjoy a wonderful spread during a luncheon including sandwiches, salads, quiches, desserts and more. You can also savour several varieties of black, green, oolong and other types of tea along with delectable snacks such as sandwiches, scones, fruit, cheese, crackers, ice creams and other goodies. Coffee and lemonade is also available for those who prefer these beverages. Besides this, there’s a lovely selection of VQA wines and beer as well at the tea room.
