Ladies, it’s time to put on your running shoes and participate in the Niagara Falls Women's Half Marathon on June 5, 2016 in Ontario, Canada. The route for the marathon is a scenic one and goes past the gorgeous Niagara Falls, the rapids above the falls, the Niagara River and several other landmarks. You can either run or walk through the 21.1 km course with each participant’s name written in big letters on a bib. You will have crowds cheering for you as you run and music will keep you entertained along the way.
Celebrate Women's Running
You will also get an opportunity to meet Kathrine Switzer, an icon for marathoners and women’s empowerment. She became the first woman to officially participate in the Boston Marathon in 1967, which till then was an all-male bastion. There was opposition to the same but she persisted and her efforts in this field over the years led to the women’s marathon being introduced at the Olympics in 1984. Today, 58% of participants in half marathons are women, and it was Katharine Switzer who led the way for this global social change. She will be there at the Niagara Falls Women's Half Marathon to cheer the women on and to encourage and chat with them. Her autographed books and CDs too will be available for purchase.
Unique Race Kit including Wine
At the half marathon, you will get to meet other participants who will gather here from all over. The half marathon is open to women of all ages, so it is a good opportunity to meet running lovers and fellow fitness enthusiasts from different backgrounds. Each participant also gets a swag bag at Packet Pick-Up that includes one of the famous wines from the Niagara region, cosmetic items from McCaughey Consumer Products and an impressive ladies styled scoop-neck event T-shirt. The race has kept the runners’ comfort in mind with water stations every few kilometres supplying water and Powerade. For those who wish to use a toilet, there are port-a-potties with flowers and lavender scent.
Niagara Falls Women's Half Marathon Finishers Medal
Each person who completes the marathon will be awarded a medal by a firefighter. The three top winners in each age group as well as three overall winners will get prizes at the award presentation. Entries will be capped at 4,000 participants. Warm up with some light exercises and meet fellow contestants before you start the marathon. Participating in such an event is an accomplishment and finishing it is the icing on the cake. So start training and come June 5, run or walk your way to glory!
