Musically inclined since his childhood, singer Steve Earle went on to become a popular name on the American rock, country and folk music scene. With a career spanning more than 30 years, the singer has garnered several accolades including three Grammy awards. He has released more than 15 studio albums, and has delivered chartbusters such as Guitar Town, Copperhead Road, Goodbye's All We've Got Left and several others.

Earle learned the guitar at a young age and idolised American singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. In fact he met his idol in Houston and was deeply influenced by him. After a few gigs with a couple of bands and some songwriting assignments, Earle tasted success with his solo album ‘Guitar Town’ in 1986. This country album with lyrics by Earle included a few love songs and a couple of them featured on the Billboard charts. Earle was also nominated for two Grammy Awards for the album.
In 1989, Earle’s album ‘Copperhead Road’ was applauded by critics and welcomed by the masses. The singer’s political and social views were reflected in some of the songs including Copperhead Road, Snake Oil and Johnny Come Lately. In the next couple of years, he came out with another album and also made an appearance as an actor in the TV show The Texas Connection. After this, the singer went through a period of turmoil which put a temporary halt to his career.

His comeback album ‘Train a Comin'’ in 1995 was well-received and Earle made his presence felt once again. But it was in the period between 2000 and 2010 that the singer achieved further fame and awards. ‘Transcendental Blues’ in 2000 was one of his well-known albums during this time which featured the popular song The Galway Girl. He continued to make strong political statements in several of his albums. His 2004 album ‘The Revolution Starts Now’ won him a Grammy Award for best contemporary folk album. Earle was on a roll and two more Grammy awards followed. In 2007, his album ‘Washington Square Serenade’ was awarded the Grammy in the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album category. A tribute album to Townes Van Zandt titled ‘Townes’ resulted in a third Grammy win for the Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2010. Thereafter, Earle continued to release more albums.
His 2016 album of duets is titled ‘Colvin And Earle’. It features singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin along with Earle. The singer has also written a novel and a collection of short stories besides writing and producing an off Broadway play. Earle is very popular with audiences for his singing and song-writing skills and conducts tours in several cities in the US and Canada.
