Celebrate with wine and food at the Taste the Season event in Niagara-on-the-Lake this November. With more than 20 wineries participating in the event, you can enjoy Niagara’s bounty and beauty during the weekends of the month.
Taste the Season Touring Pass
Experience an amazing variety of culinary delights and some of the best VQA wines with a Taste the Season touring pass. A pass entitles you to tour the wineries and taste wine and food pairings at each one during:
November 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, and 25-27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Since it is valid for four weekends, you can visit different wineries at a leisurely pace during each weekend. If you do not have much time, you can wrap it up in one weekend or two. Transportation is not included in the ticket price although the organizers can arrange for transport.
The touring pass enables you to visit some of the best wineries in the region. Here is a list of some of the participating wineries.
Château des Charmes
Established in 1978, this family-run winery blends modern methods and sustainable wine-making practices to produce their award-winning red wines, white wines and ice wines. The touring pass entitles you to savour an estate grown 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and a braised short rib wellington with green peppercorn aioli.
Between the Lines
An original wine-making style enables this winery to produce an amazing range of wines. The wines here are unique and flavoursome. You can enjoy a Rindergulasch (beef goulash), Spätzle (buttery noodles) and Rotkohl (wine braised red cabbage) paired with a Red Barn Cabernet Franc for the event.
Konzelmann Estate Winery
The winery has a lovely lakefront setting, beautiful vineyards and over 30 different types of award-winning wines. Feast on a Baked Woolwich goat cheese and sweet basil tart with field tomato marmalade by “Escabèche” Restaurant at the Prince of Wales Hotel paired with a 2015 Konzelmann Sauvignon Blanc Reserve.
This wonderful winery has a great selection of wines including award-winning ice wines. A restaurant Oliv is also located in the premises. You can relish a Balderson double-smoked cheddar, turkey & cranberry sausage, sweet potato & maple purée in phyllo cup paired with a 2013 Strewn Merlot during the event.
Peller Estates Winery
A range of premium quality red and white wines as well as ice wines are produced at this winery. Your touring pass enables you to taste Yorkshire Valley Chicken Pot Pies: braised chicken, tender vegetables, flaky crust and a Chardonnay cream sauce paired with a 2015 Private Reserve Chardonnay at this scenic winery.
Reif Estate Winery
Although famous for its ice wines, the winery also has a great range of white wines, red wines and dessert wines. The grapes are cultivated at their 125 acre vineyard. Enjoy Ruth Anne’s Sugar Plum Christmas Cookie and a 2015 Baco Noir with your touring pass.
