The US-based vocal trio known as Three Dog Night formed in 1967 and wasted no time in getting the public’s attention. The story goes that the group name was recommended after hearing of an Australian urban legend about huddling with dogs to keep warm in cold nights. But taken literally, the name also aptly described the three frontmen at the time; shaggy, determined and packing plenty of bite (vocally speaking). Three Dog Night in concert is a great Thing to Do during a February Niagara Falls Vacation.
Three Dog Nights Niagara Falls Concert
The original Three Dogs were Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron and Cory Wells. With a solid group of backup musicians including 20th century stalwarts like Jimmy Greenspoon, the group shot to fame quickly with a growling pop rock mixed with soul roots.
A unique feature of Three Dog Night at the time was the deep pool of talent that rotated within the ranks of the backup musicians and, perhaps most distinctively, their various songwriters. The singer trio wrote some of their own songs, of course, but conscripted various composers to supplement their work. As a result, mainstream audiences were exposed to Three Dog Night through names who would become major musicians and composers in the 1970s and beyond – Harry Nilsson, Laura Nyro, Hoyt Axton, Paul Williams and Randy Newman to name only a few.
The peak of Three Dog Night’s public exposure was from 1967 until the start of a hiatus from 1976. But the band has been back together since 1981. In its modern incarnation, founding member Danny Hutton heads a six-man troupe including original guitar member Michael Allsup.
Three Dog Nights 2017 Concert
Three Dog Night have been constantly active, and in 2017 their latest travels will take them to Niagara Falls to play at the Fallsview Casino. Across two nights, Feb 1st and 2nd, the band’s celebrating their past by playing their best hits along with a few more recent additions. Taking in classic concerts in the heart of the Niagara Falls Casino district is a great addition to any Niagara Falls Vacation.
Because of their wide reach of talent in musicians and songwriters, as well as the commanding presence of the three original vocalists, the performing portfolio of Three Dog Night is, in many ways, some of the best material from the late 1960s and early 1970s distilled into a single form. To hear these songs live will be an experience in itself. If you're a fan of the band or the genre make it a point to check out this upcoming Niagara Falls Concert.
