The first thought that comes to your mind when you hear the name ‘Niagara Falls’ is obviously about the spectacular waterfalls. But there is much more to the city than just Waterfalls. There are numerous attractions that the city offers for families, solo travellers, groups and people of all ages. Here are some highlights, sorted by venue type.

The Outdoors

You can go for scenic drives in and around the city on various routes such as the Niagara Parkway. Lovely views of the Niagara River, pretty houses, beautiful blossoms in spring, the colours of autumn, wineries and several other visual delights dot the Parkway. Places that you need to stop by include the Niagara Floral Clock, Brock’s Monument at Queenston, Willoughby Historical Museum and other splendid attractions.

You can also explore Niagara Glen Nature Reserve with its wonderful Carolinian forests. There are several trails here that you can explore to admire the flora and fauna found in abundance. You can also have a good time in the picnic areas inside the reserve.

Encounter Birds and Butterflies

The glass enclosed Butterfly Conservatory in the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens is a treat to the eyes with its tropical setting and colourful butterflies. There are over 2000 species of butterflies belonging to 45 different species fluttering around.

If you like birds, head over to the Bird Kingdom spread over an enormous 50,000 square feet. It is one of the largest indoor free flying aviaries in the world and has 400 birds belonging to 80 different species from all around the globe at the Main Aviary. You can also spot some rare and endangered birds at the Small Aviary which has around 40 species.

Clifton Hill

This place is an activity and entertainment hub filled with shops, restaurants, museums, video arcades and several fun attractions. Go to Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks to check out wax models of the rich and the famous. Play miniature golf at Adventure City or enjoy a ride on the Niagara Skywheel that takes you 175 feet above the ground. Try out the restaurants or Niagara Brewing Company for some good food, drinks and a relaxing time.
